About this Event
In this kids art workshop, participants will create a bold folk art style portrait inspired by vibrant color, simple shapes, and playful patterns. Kids will learn how to draw a simplified face using thick lines, add expressive details, and fill the background with repeating patterns and color.
We’ll explore what folk art is and how artists use personal style rather than realism to tell a story. Children can choose to create a self portrait or a portrait of someone they admire, such as a family member, friend, or community hero. The focus is on creativity, confidence, and enjoying the process rather than getting everything “perfect.”
Using kid friendly materials, students will outline their portraits with bold black lines and then add color using a mix of oil pastels, watercolor, and other drawing tools. We’ll demonstrate simple techniques like pattern making, color layering, and wax resist to help artwork feel finished and expressive.
Each child will leave with a colorful folk art portrait they can proudly take home. This workshop is welcoming, supportive, and designed to work well for a range of ages and skill levels.
This is a paid workshop and all supplies are included with the ticket. Seating is limited to keep the experience relaxed and engaging.
Ages 7+. Parents may join. Seats must be purchased in advance, and a ticket is required for each participant to cover materials.
