Discover the creatures that make the night glow! Kids ages 8–12 will spend an evening at the Garden learning about bioluminescence and the fascinating organisms that create their own light, from phytoplankton along North Carolina’s coast and glowing “foxfire” fungi to fireflies and other unexpected species. Along the way, they’ll enjoy hands-on activities, an after-hours Garden adventure, a night hike, and a campfire with s’mores, weather permitting. This three-hour Kids Night Out is designed to be fun, active, and educational — giving kids a chance to learn more about space and astronauts while making some out-of-this-world memories. Date: Friday, November 20, 2026 Time: 6–9 p.m. Location: Children’s Pavilion Ages: 8–12 Fee: $30 non-members | $25 Garden members Limited Availability. Please preregister at https://shop.capefearbg.org/SelectEvent.aspx?eventID=1000238 Registration includes all activity materials, s’mores, and three hours of guided programming with Cape Fear Botanical Garden educators.
