Kid's Night: Holiday Ornament Making at the Christkindlmarket Aurora 2024

Let your child experience the joy of creating their own holiday ornament at the Christkindlmarket Aurora, held at RiverEdge Park. Kids aged 5 to 9 will work with expert artisans from Ikonic Glass to create a special keepsake through the art of glassblowing. 

They’ll get to choose from fun shapes like the traditional Pickle Ornament, Icicles, Leaves, or Tear Drops. After selecting their favorite shape and colors, they’ll be guided through the creation process using a safe, benchtop torch. 

Every child will receive a safety demonstration and protective glasses before beginning. Students will handle glass rods from a safe distance, melting them in a controlled flame with close supervision from experienced teachers. For additional safety information, please see the event details.

Location: Ikonic Glass Pop-Up Tent (near booth #38) at the south end of the Christkindlmarket Aurora, 360 North Broadway, Aurora, IL 60505

Ornament Shapes: Christmas Pickle, Heart, Leaf, Icicle, Lollipop, Moon, Mushroom, Sun/Star, Teardrop, Medallion

Safety: All students will receive a safety demonstration beforehand and will be provided with protective glasses. After choosing their design, they’ll have the chance to select glass rods in the colors they prefer to create their pieces. Under the guidance of an Ikonic Glass teacher, students will hold the glass rods at a safe one-foot distance from our controlled flame to melt the ends. The glass material is non-conductive, so heat will not travel towards their hands.

Additionally, the flame is highly controlled and predictable, with windshields to ensure it remains stable. With close supervision from Ikonic Glass’ experienced teachers, students will be involved in various activities, including melting, carving, pulling, smushing, and playing with the glass. At no point will any student be unsupervised or handling anything dangerous alone. Please note that a waiver will need to be filled out on-site by a parent or guardian before participation. Your ticket includes:

• One (1) 20-minute one-on-one instruction session with a glassblowing instructor.

• One (1) glass ornament that you create and take home, with ten (10) design options to choose from.

• All materials and safety equipment provided.

• A sticker for your Christkindlmarket Kinder Passport, certifying you as a Master Glassblower upon completing the course!

Each 20-minute time slot allows a maximum of two (2) spots. One ticket reserves a single spot for your chosen time. You can pick up your ornament 20 minutes after your time slot, once it has fully cooled.
