Kickin' It Old School
About this Event
Remember when making friends was as easy as sharing your snack at lunch? We’re bringing back that recess energy, for grown-ups.
Join We Met in Miami at Dear Eleanor on Saturday, Nov. 14, from noon to 9 p.m., as we kick off Give Miami Day with nostalgia, play and new connections.
Drop in or stay all day:
🍪 📚 Bake sale and book swap (12–3 p.m.): homemade treats, coffee and a white elephant swap of books you read in school
🪑 Musical chairs (3–5 p.m.): last one sitting wins, with a DJ spinning
🪩 disco dance class with Nina Osoria Ahmadi (5–6 p.m.)
🕺 Dance Through the Decades (6–9 p.m.): then music from the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, with spiked punch, costume contests and dance-offs
Get your Hall Pass
Make a Give Miami Day donation of $25 to get a Hall Pass, your ticket to the best parts of the day.
It includes:
- a seat in musical chairs
- 5 tickets to spend all day
Spend your tickets on:
- baked goods: choose from salted tahini cookies, blueberry crumb cake and herbs de Provence baguettes and more, while supplies last
- costume contest entries: prizes every hour, and you can enter more than once
- dance-offs: challenge someone to a showdown featuring the song of your choice from that hour’s decade
Additional tickets are $5 each.
No Hall Pass? No problem. Anyone can swap books, watch musical chairs, take the disco class, dance all night and sip the spiked punch for free.
Why we’re fundraising
We Met in Miami is run by the nonprofit We Met Community Connection, which works to overcome loneliness in South Florida. Give Miami Day is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This annual giving campaign opens Saturday, Nov. 14, and runs through Thursday, Nov. 19. What we raise helps Miamians find friendship, love and a place to belong.
Looking for a new friend or romantic spark?
At our events, we wear wristbands that show others who we are and what we’re looking for (choose one, two or all three):
💚 green for love
💙 blue for friendship
🌈 rainbow for members of the LGBTQIA+ community
💌 if you meet someone special, we’ll help you reconnect after the event
