Each year, the UUA President extends an invitation to a prestigious guest to captivate the General Assembly as the esteemed Ware Lecturer. The 2025 Ware Lecturer was Imara Jones, whose work has won Emmy and Peabody Awards, is the creator of TransLash Media—a cross-platform journalism, personal storytelling and narrative project—which produces content to shift the current culture of hostility towards transgender people in the US. With brilliance and unwavering truth, she laid bare how anti-trans politics have become tools of authoritarianism—and called us to live our values with courage and consistency. As UUA President Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt said at the close: “Let this be the lecture that changes us.” First U’s Rainbow Network is hosting a viewing in our social hall for our community, with a sandwich bar, drinks and mocktails, and a time to discuss what we watched. Doors open at 4:00 pm, food will be served at 4:30 pm, and the lecture will be introduced by Rev. Stacey Mitchell at 5:15 pm. Seating will be limited, so RSVP on First Unitarian’s Facebook event and share with your community.
