KEY WEST GARDENS AT FORT WEST MARTELLO MARKS 70-YEARS ON DECEMBER 3 WITH AN ANNIVERSARY EVENT CELEBRATING THE PAST AND KICKING OFF THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE FUTUREOn Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Key West Gardens at Fort West Martello will celebrate 70 years at its Higgs Beach location as a free to the public botanical garden. The all-volunteer board and gardeners, many of whom lend their talents as master gardeners, invite the community to enjoy an enchanting display of holiday lights in the gardens along with island-inspired food and drinks from primary sponsor Kaya Eats. In addition, guests will enjoy a program detailing little known facts about the garden’s history, its role in tropical ecosystem preservation, and future plans to enhance the garden experience from a historical perspective beginning with its initial purpose as a military fort built during the American Civil War.
Tickets to the event are $70 per person with proceeds going to support a history installation that will provide locals and the more than 20,000 tourists who visit each year with a visual history of the gardens over the years. Guests can enjoy live music and have fun bidding on silent auction items from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Key West’s Rosi Ware will be the mistress of ceremonies, and guests will also enjoy remarks from some of the gardens’ community partners, including sponsor Historic Tours of America director of operations Clinton Curry. Gardens President, Mary Olson, says, “We look forward to sharing this special evening amid the beauty of the gardens and lights in a season meant for gratitude and looking forward.” Tickets are available exclusively on keystix.com.
Key West Gardens at Fort West Martello (formerly Key West Garden Club) is a non-profit, 501c3 organization with a mission to provide educational opportunities for the community related to tropical gardening and its historic home in Fort West Martello. The Gardens is supported by donations from visitors and through annual membership support from community members who love and appreciate the beauty, tranquility and tropical preservation value of the gardens.
