As he began work on his sophomore album, keshi found himself at a remarkable crossroads: the end of two years of sold-out touring, nearly 11 billion global streams, and the prospect of turning 30. Born Casey Luong and raised in Sugarland, Texas, keshi built his massive career on his innate ability to render emotional vulnerability through song. Since 2017, he’s released a trilogy of EPs and the breakthrough debut album GABRIEL—which crossed 3.1 billion streams alone—interweaving pop, R&B, lo-fi, and hip hop into confessions about love, loneliness, and loss. After a whirlwind of performing these personal songs worldwide, he returned to Texas, seeking time and space to create a sophomore album that encompassed all he had learned.
Requiem marks the culmination of keshi's journey from a rookie artist to a fully formed adult one, navigating blockbuster success, arena-sized shows, and personal evolution. Once a Texas kid considering quitting his nursing job to pursue music, keshi is now a major label artist with a devoted fan base from his SoundCloud days. GABRIEL led to two headlining North American tours, a world tour, and a tour in China, reaching #4 on Billboard. Singles like "LIMBO," "UNDERSTAND," and "GET IT" became viral sensations. The stakes grew higher, and keshi embraced the seriousness of his art, recognizing the importance of evolution and risk-taking in his music.
On Requiem, keshi returned to the essence of his love for music, creating a 13-song album that spans genres from Y2K-style pop to homesick country and meditations on mortality. He aimed for a varied yet cohesive record, assembling friends and collaborators at his Texas home studio. This creative freedom allowed him to explore deep personal themes, such as the dissolution of a romantic relationship in "War," existential inquiries on "Requiem," and reflections on fame and purpose in "Amen." Despite the serious undertones, keshi ensured the album remained fun, with songs like "Night" exuding a boy band vibe and "Say" poised to become an anthem for massive live shows.
