Join Professor Shulman, FAIA and Cantor Rachelle Nelson in the Gumenick Chapel, one of architect Kenneth Treister's finest works, to hear about Treister's new book, Court Garden Houses. For $10, guests will receive a copy of the book (valued at $40), a large, signed watercolor print by Treister of the Taj Mahal, views of the spectacular Gumenick Chapel, hear a discussion by Professor Allan Shulman, and a concert by Cantor Rachelle Nelson.

About the Author:

Kenneth Treister, FAIA, is an architect, painter, sculptor, photographer, author and lecturer. Treister was awarded the Gold Medal by the American Institute of Architects, Florida, 2013, their highest honor and the Silver Metal and Lifetime Achievement Award, AIA, Miami and the Miami Center for Architecture & Design, 2018. Treister’s art has been exhibited in galleries and fine art museums throughout the world. He is a member of Real Academia de Belles Arts de Sant Jorge, Barcelona, Spain Among his most notable works is Miami Beach's world-famous masterpiece, the Holocaust Memorial. Treister has lectured at Universities in the United States, Chile, China, Israel, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Bali. Treister has been published in over fifty architectural and art journals and has written 4 documentaries films for national television and thirteen books on art and architecture.



About Professor Allan Shulman:

Counting Kenneth Treister as a mentor and longtime friend, Professor Allan Shulman FAIA is an architect, author, editor and curator. He serves as a Professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture and is the founding principal of the award-winning studio Shulman + Associates. Professor Shulman's research focuses on themes of modernism, tropicality and urbanism. His firm has become a leader in forging a creative synthesis of preservation, resiliency and innovation, and in developing new approaches to tropical architecture. Elevated to Fellowship in the AIA in 2008, Allan was awarded the AIA Miami Silver Medal for Design in 2010 and the AIA Florida Gold Medal in 2017. Books include Miami Modern Metropolis, Building Bacardi, The Discipline of Nature: Alfred Browning Parker and Building the Postmodern City.



About Cantor Rachelle Nelson:

Cantor Nelson has the honor of being the very first female Cantor and graduate of Hebrew Union College/School of Sacred Music to serve in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Cantor Nelson is highly recognized and regarded throughout the world as a composer of Jewish music, with several compositions published by Transcontinental Music in New York City. She is skilled in several instruments: voice, piano, flute, and guitar. She has performed in concerts and workshops throughout the United States and Europe and has taught Jewish Music history at the University of Miami.
