HENRY V
UK, 1989, Kenneth Branagh
It took a lot of chutzpah for first-time filmmaker Kenneth Branagh to “remake” and star in a seminal 1944 Shakespeare movie by the great Laurence Olivier. But Branagh’s courage and confidence paid off; his film (which is quite different from Olivier’s) proved a critical and audience hit. (It was nominated for three Oscars including Best Picture and Actor and won one for Costume Design.) This rousing tale of a British monarch who goes to war with France boasts a superb supporting cast that includes Derek Jacobi, Paul Scofield, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Ian Holm, Christian Bale, and Robbie Coltrane, among others. 35mm. 137 min.
Special admission $13; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $10. No passes.
Masks are currently optional for moviegoers, but still encouraged. Learn more under the “Face Coverings” section at cia.edu/covid.
As a reminder, filmgoers can park for free in Lot 73 and in the Institute's annex lot, and should enter CIA via nearby Entrance C.
