About the walk
This walk is part of the Reading Walks Festival 2023
Join Adrian Lawson and Nature Nurture for an afternoon walk in the Kennet Meadows. We'll be starting and finishing on Circuit Lane, at the junction with Sylvan Walk. We'll be taking in the sights around Reading's waterways, exploring the area and looking at the flora and fauna along the way, including Fobney Island Wetland reserve. We'll discover how the valley has such importance and cultural relevance for Reading. Back at Circuit Lane, we'll enjoy a free hot drink. This is a fairly long walk and can be a bit muddy in places. There is a bridge to cross with steps.

The walk leader
Adrian advises Nature Nurture in green space management and leads our conservation programmes. He helps at our events and leads many walks and talks about Reading's natural world. Adrian's knowledge of the natural world, and his impact on it has run through his whole life. When he was a child, during a short stay in hospital, he was given "Be a Nature Detective" by Maxwell Knight. Soon after this he moved near to Epping forest, where he spent countless hours outdoors. Adrian has held many roles in the ecology world. He was open spaces manager at Reading Borough council for many years; was chair and founding member of the Countryside and access forum for mid and West Berkshire; wrote a natural history column in the local paper for 25 years and has published three books on nature in the Reading area.
Currently, Adrian is chair of the Friends of Fobney Island management group. He is also an instructor at Path hill outdoors, teaching woodland skills to children excluded from school.
Nature Nurture is on a mission to connect our community with the parks, woodlands and waterways on our doorstep. www.nature-nurture.co.uk
