Montreal producer Kee Avil crafts deconstructed songs that blend guitar, voice, and electronic production with avant-pop, glitch, and experimental folk sensibilities. After her Berlin debut at the Kiezsalon in 2019, Digital in Berlin welcomes her back to Neue Zukunft in support of her third album, Vapor on NYC label NNA Tapes.
Throughout 2026, Kee Avil’s latest project is being released progressively, song by song. For Avil, this deconstructed album is a sonic diary, reflecting what inspires her in the moment. It is an attempt to capture fleeting moments of creativity and complete them quickly while they are still fresh and breathing. On the evolving album, Avil doesn’t attempt to link the songs, but instead allows each one to tell its own story.
Her previous albums, Crease (Constellation, March 2022) and Spine (Constellation, May 2024), were Bandcamp Album of the Day selections and received widespread critical acclaim, including Juno nominations for Best Album Artwork.
The Line of Best Fit declared “Spine affirms Kee Avil’s status of an aesthetics and production virtuoso comparable to Jlin or SOPHIE, producing a dripping, cavernous version of glitch slammed with manipulations” while the Quietus applauded its restrained intensity “Spine simmers, sashaying close to eruption. Sounds worm around like squeezed gel.”
As a compelling voice in experimental songcraft, Kee Avil evokes PJ Harvey, Eartheater, SOPHIE, and Lucretia Dalt, where Juana Molina meets Autechre. She has toured extensively, including festivals like Rewire, Les Nuits Botanique, A Colossal Weekend, Pop Montreal, À L'arme, Ruhrtriennale, Le Guess Who?, Guelph and Vancouver Jazz Festival, and supported bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Xiu Xiu, SUUNS and Big | Brave.
