In this class you will learn about the belief in the supernatural in contemporary and how it is a vital part of the many cultures that call the State of Hawaiʻi home. Learn about the Native Hawaiian belief in ghosts, the leina a ka Pō – the jumping off points for spirits into the afterlife, the Hawaiian Night Marchers, the belief in the Pele, the goddess of Volcanos, Aumakua -Hawaiian family spirits still venerated and called upon by Native Hawaiians today, ʻānai – the power of cursing and wahi kapu- the sacred places in Hawaiʻi and negative consequences of disrespecting these sacred sites.
Jason Lindo was born and raised in Honolulu, HI and is part Native Hawaiian who was raised in a family with a long tradition of telling ghost stories and practicing Native Hawaiian spiritual beliefs. Jason is a cultural practicition in Northern California and is often called on by Native Hawaiian families and organizations to conduct traditional protocols and blessings.
