KCA Dance Code of Conduct

CODE OF CONDUCT AND SOCIAL STANDARDS

“Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.” Proverbs 20:11

The Dance is a KCA sponsored event designed specifically for homeschool teens and their guests. Our goal for this event is to ensure a safe, fun, social environment that supports appropriate, enjoyable social interaction among students. To achieve a positive experience for all, registered students must read and agree to this document to ensure that everyone understands the expectations. The students are fully required to follow these guidelines.

Parents and teens should know that music at this event will include secular content (with no explicit lyrics), and it will be approved by a KCA committee. There will be no requests made to the DJ during the dance.

Open dancing, line dancing and swing dancing will be encouraged. While some slow music will be played, chaperones will hold students to a tasteful standard and will intercede if dancing is in any way less than tasteful.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

Because we are trying to maintain a safe, respectful, and appropriate environment for everyone at the event, we ask everyone to observe the following behavior guidelines. If we notice someone behaving in a way that is detrimental to this type of environment, that behavior will addressed appropriately by an adult chaperone. Continued disrespectful or inappropriate behavior will ultimately result in the student being asked to leave. The following regulations are to be followed by attendees:

1. Teens are to stay inside the building, the roof, or on the patio below while the dance is occurring. Students may not linger in the parking lots.

2.  Christian principles of appropriate behavior and attire will be expected, and these guidelines and the decisions of all chaperones are to be respected.

3. Dancing is to be tasteful.  Chaperones have the right to make corrections and/or ask someone to leave.  There will be no close body contact dancing.

5.  No outside foods, beverages, alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco products or smoking will be allowed.

6.  This is a semi-formal event, and attendees are to care responsibly for the rented facility. There will be no running, rough-housing or playing of sports in the facility. Any damage caused to public or private property will be the responsibility of the student.

7.  The dance will end promptly at 11:00.  All teens must be picked up by 11:00 pm.  Parents can pick up students on the ground level.

8.  Students are requested to refrain from public displays of affection. If behavior is determined to be inappropriate, students will be asked to leave.  There will be no refunds issued.

Dress Code

Our dress code provides standards to insure a modest, well-groomed appearance for all students. While fashion trends change frequently, it is up to the discretion of the chaperones whether specific clothing meets the modesty requirements or becomes a distraction to the dance environment.

General Guidelines to follow in choosing their wardrobe for the evening:

Dress at all times should be modest and in good taste. Modest, becoming dress is expected. Please use discretion to assure your selection is tasteful and above reproach.

Ladies:

NEW GUIDELINES FOR 2022 - PLEASE NOTE: Please make sure that you are within the guideline as these standards will be upheld. If you have questions about your attire, please ask before the dance.

Dress for this event can include both long and shorter dresses.

No visible undergarments—appropriate undergarments should be worn but should not show.

Dresses/skirts can be no shorter than 5 inches above the knew. While standing, measure from the top of the kneecap to the bottom hem of the garment. This distance can be no more than 5 inches. Non-see-through material must come to 5 inches above the knee. This means that if you have a section of your dress that is see-through or has a slit, the non-see-through portion should meet the above requirements.

Slits in dresses may be no higher than 5 inches to the top of the kneecap.

Test-drive your dress. Dance, lift your hands above your head, lean over, and sit. Are you just as comfortable and modest while moving as you are while standing still? Raise your arms; touch your toes. If anything shows, you may want to reconsider.

Tops and backs in dresses will follow these guidelines:

Strapless dresses are allowed, but remember that you will be moving! Strapless or off-the-shoulder tops or dresses should be selected carefully to ensure modesty.

Partially open backs are acceptable but should be in good taste. To be clear, dresses may come below the bra line but must cover the lower back. The back must be covered starting at 2 inches past (under) the natural bra line, and this material cannot be see-through. This means that your dress may dip to two inches below the bra line, but no lower.

Completely backless dresses are not appropriate for this dance.

We recognize that two-piece prom dresses are becoming popular. Please use discretion when picking these dresses, understanding that if you are out of dress code, you may be asked to leave the dance. Please do not show more than 1 inch of skin in the midriff if you choose a modest two-piece dress. (This includes any sheer material or lace that shows your skin, whether it is a two-piece dress or not.)

Final Tip: Bring a shawl or sweater in case of wardrobe malfunction.

Gentlemen:

Appropriate attire for this event includes dress slacks with a button-down shirt, a tie or a jacket or a suit and a tie. Because this event includes semi-formal attire, jeans can be worn if with semi-formal attire - a button-down shirt and a tie or jacket.

Remember the young ladies are wearing semi-formal dresses, so please dress in a corresponding fashion.

Jackets and ties may be removed during dancing.

No t-shirts or athletic clothing of any kind are suitable for this event.

The overall goal is for everyone to have an enjoyable and memorable evening. It is uncomfortable for both the chaperones and attendees to correct attire outside of the dress code. Please make sure that you are within the above guideline as these standards will be upheld. If you have questions about your attire, please ask before the dance.

Facilities

Students are expected to be good stewards of the physical resources at the building. They are also expected to be models of good citizenship by keeping the facility clean and refraining from actions that are destructive to the property or disrespectful to others.

Students are permitted to be in the dance section of the clubhouse, the outside patio, the roof of the clubhouse, and bathrooms. There are some areas of the building that are “out of bounds” to students at all times. These include, but are not limited to, the parking lot, (unless coming and going), the kitchen, and offices. Students found in these areas will be subject to disciplinary action. Students will remain under adult supervision while on the premises. Being absent from the dance without the knowledge or permission of parents or KCA staff will be treated as a disciplinary issue.

Obedience Policy

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37. In all your relationships, with parents, teachers, siblings, and friends:

Respect for God and others also means respect for the property of others.

Be patient, for God is patient with you. Be patient with others at all times.

Be kind. Use your words to build each other up, not tear each other down. Build community; don’t tear it down with words or actions.

Step in when someone is being treated unfairly. Don’t let injustice continue. Know the truth, and stand for it.

Believe the best of every person whether you think they deserve it or not.
