The Jazz Station's One Set Wednesday concert series aims to spotlight emerging student musicians. This evening we present bassist K.C. Isaman. Isaman and Crew will present a completely improvised soundtrack to the great silent film Battleship Potemkin directed by Sergei Eisenstein. Bring your instruments for a second set jam session afterwards hosted by trumpeter Paul Krueger.K.C. Isaman bass

K.C. Isaman is a dynamic and versatile bassist known for his vibrant performances across a range of genres. With a robust schedule, he engages audiences as an orchestral bassist, chamber musician, jazz artist, and free improviser. His thoughtful and energetic playing style captivates listeners and makes him a sought-after collaborator in various musical settings. Career highlights include performing with the GRAMMY Museum Affiliate Collective at the 2023 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, recording Liam Marchant’s Double Bass Sonata, releasing a full-length album and live album with the fusion group Pumice Pocket, and backing up Stephan Stubbins and Libby Servais in their duo show Broadway in Love. In musical theatre, he has played with stars such as Donna Vivino, Robert Creighton, and Meredith Patterson in Alpine Theatre Project’s Broadway Concert Series. K.C. graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and a minor in Jazz Studies from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho, studying under Josh Skinner, Vern Sielert, and Daniel Bukvich. K.C. is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Performance at the University of Oregon, where he teaches and performs as a Graduate Employee.
Originally from San Jose, CA, Ben Harris attends the University of Oregon, where he received his Bachelor’s of Jazz Studies in 2023. While at the university Ben has studied with Idit Shner, Steve Owen, Joe Manis, and Keith Brown, as well as Jacqueline Cordova-Arrington on flute. As a member of the Oregon Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Arts Oregon, UO’s top large ensemble and combo respectively, Ben has been fortunate to perform alongside Omar Thomas and Braxton Cook, among others. Ben returned to the University of Oregon in the fall of 2023 as a graduate employee, fulfilling teaching duties in the jazz department while earning a Master’s in Jazz Studies. In the winter of 2024 Ben was invited to compete in the North American Saxophone Alliance Jazz Competition during NASA’s biennial national conference. After competing live in Stillwater, Oklahoma against college students across North America, Ben placed as a semi-finalist. Later that summer of 2024 Ben was invited to the Carinthian International Jazz Award, a worldwide competition drawing from saxophonists under the age of 26. After competing live in Arnoldstein, Austria, Ben was awarded second place.
Anderson Donley is a 19 year old drummer who grew up playing at jam sessions around Portland, Oregon. In fall of 2023, he moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon for jazz studies and has since played with and learned from some of the most important names in the Eugene jazz scene. He is inspired by drummers such as Paul Motian, Elvin Jones, and Oli Bernatchez.
