About Castle Foundation

The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, established in 1962, invests in initiatives that enhance Hawaii’s future by supporting education, marine conservation, and community development. Its mission includes closing the achievement gap in public education, restoring nearshore marine life, strengthening Windward Oahu communities, and addressing other critical opportunities. The Foundation funds these efforts through carefully managed grants from its endowment, ensuring long-term impact. Founded by Harold K.L. Castle, a descendant of early Hawaiian missionaries and owner of Kaneohe Ranch, the organization remains committed to improving the lives of Hawaii’s children, communities, and environment.

About the Speaker

Alex Harris has spent his career striving to improve educational opportunity for young people. He currently serves as Vice President for Programs at the Hawaii-based Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, where his work helps prepare more low-income students to access good jobs.

Alex has prior executive leadership experience in the Hawaii Department of Education, DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, National Governors Association, Council for Chief State School Officers and US Education Delivery Institute supporting large-scale transformation efforts in school districts and systems.

Harris serves as vice chair of the Hawaii State Public Charter School Commission. He completed a master’s degree in public policy at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree with honors at Brown University. He lives in Windward Oahu with his wife and two sons.
