Kayaka

Kayaka (‘work’) brings together renowned Bangalore musicians MD Pallavi and Bruce Lee Mani to reimagine ancient, progressive Indian poetry within a contemporary musical framework. Drawing primarily from the Vachanas - powerful 11th-century verses written by cobblers, weavers, sex workers, and other working-class voices. The concert foregrounds radical thought that remains strikingly relevant today. A recipient of the prestigious Vachanasri Award, Pallavi has long engaged with this body of work. 

Blending Bruce’s genre-fluid guitar and compositional sensibility with Pallavi’s evocative interpretations, Kayaka weaves Western acoustic folk, blues, world music, and jazz with Indian folk and classical traditions, creating a stirring, thought-provoking musical experience.
