Join Mike Brown Contemporary for a reception celebrating a new exhibition - Katie Walker: Deep DiveKatie Walker draws. In her large-scale mixed media paintings, the poetry of the draughtsman’s hand is unmistakable—every line as essential to the storytelling as her palette and the subtle washes that build the layered depths viewers lose themselves in. Her hand moves freely, lines playfully opening new paths or returning to syncopated rhythms that map worlds—many of which reside within each painting.
In her series Deep Dive, Walker plays the ends against the middle. The expansive canvases that have shaped her public identity are joined by an intimate installation of small works on paper. Across scale, her vocabulary of symbols, gestures, and lines remain strikingly consistent, communicating in a range of voices. The fluency of her language and its spontaneity resonate in the monumental canvases and erupt with particular intensity in the small works on paper. If the large-scale pieces command the room with physicality, the smaller works feel like love letters—delicate yet piercing, a subtle gut punch.
