Katie DeCosta is a baritone saxophonist from Eugene, Oregon, going into her third year of jazz music studies at the University of Oregon. She has studied with renowned saxophonists Idit Shner, Steve Owen, Joe Manis, and Roger Woods. She is an active member of the award-winning local big band Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra and Salsaros dance band Descarga 54. Last school year, she was engaged in UO's Latin Jazz Ensemble, Lab Band II, Sax Quartet, and one of the many jazz combos. In town, she leads her own shows at the Jazz Station and other local venues.
In her musical writing, arranging, and playing, Katie focuses on a growth mindset and staying curious about new subjects. Her eagerness to learn has led her to explore a variety of genres such as jazz, salsa, cumbia, merengue, gospel, alternative Christian music, chamber music, classical saxophone, and Irish folk music. This range of musical influences make her a versatile musician.
Robert Bohall is a versatile pianist, composer, and educator with a rich background in jazz and choral music. He earned his master’s degree in jazz piano from the University of Oregon, where he also served as a graduate educator. Recognized for his talents, Robert received a Downbeat Award in the 47th Annual Student Music Awards as pianist and composer for Jazzarts Oregon, which won the "Top Graduate Ensemble" award. He has been honored as both Outstanding Undergraduate Performer and Outstanding Graduate Performer in the Jazz Studies department at the University of Oregon.
Robert’s compositions have been performed by esteemed ensembles including The Oregon Jazz Ensemble, The University of Oregon Chamber Choir, and Jazzarts Oregon. Notably, Western Oregon University featured him as a guest composer in their choral department, and afterwards commissioned him to write a new choral piece for them to perform in their 2024-25 school year. His music is available on all major streaming platforms, with his latest album titled "Standards: Vol. 1."
In addition to his performing and composing career, Robert is the venue manager for The Jazz Station in downtown Eugene. He also teaches privately and at the Lassen Piano Studio. As a choral musician, Robert serves as a section leader for the Eugene Symphony Chorus and has performed in The Bach Festival Chorus for three seasons.
Eli Hansen is an upright and electric bassist, synthesist, engineer and educator from Roseburg, Oregon. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Jazz Studies program at the University of Oregon and is an active member of the Pacific Northwest music scene. As a sideman, he has worked with Eugene and Portland luminaries such as Joe Manis, Roger Woods, Ehren Ebbage, Julia Logue, Golden Boy, BendreTheGiant, and Nick Gamer. Additionally, he has been featured as a soloist and accompanist in groups such as the University of Oregon Wind Ensemble, the Oregon Jazz Ensemble, JazzArts Oregon, and the Eugene Concert Choir.
