A free talk about the connection between Katherine Mansfield, World War I and ShakespeareWhile other writers wrote and published during the war and in the post-war period, Mansfield’s approach to writing about her war-related experiences is unique. Mansfield’s war-related short stories not only drew on her war experiences, but also illustrate her love of Shakespeare and his influence on her work.
Please note: This talk will take place at the Wellington Bridge Club, two doors down from Katherine Mansfield House & Garden. Katherine Mansfield House & Garden will remain open until 5.50pm for anyone who would like to visit the house prior to the talk. The talk is free, but there is an admission fee for entry to the house.
Lynley Hutton is the President of the Wellington Shakespeare Society. She has recently been in Europe and the United Kingdom undertaking further World War I-related research for a novel that involves the war experiences of New Zealand soldiers and Shakespeare. That research also led her to examine Katherine Mansfield’s life and work in relation to World War I and to Shakespeare.
