Opening February 14, 2025, Americana: A Common Thread marks the public debut of Katharine Heyl’s striking body of work, featuring intricate threadwork on painted canvas. Presented by Capital Creatives Art Advisory and Union Market District, this immersive pop-up exhibit will be on view through April 1 at 1270 5th Street NE, Washington, D.C.

Rooted in the idea that our collective identity as Americans is woven from shared experiences, Heyl’s work explores the threads that connect us across time. Americana: A Common Thread captures the romance of western iconography, the vastness of untamed frontiers, and the deep sense of grounding found in the western landscape.

Through a masterful blend of threadwork, figurative painting, and rich color theory, Heyl transports viewers into an interactive, sensory journey—one that invites contemplation on the physical and symbolic meanings of the West. Her work offers a contemporary yet timeless perspective on a region that continues to shape the American spirit.

This exhibit is made possible by Union Market District and will be on display at 1270 5th Street NE through April 1, 2025.
