Kate Baxter & John Saavedra
After years of singing quietly to sauté pans and spreadsheets in Minneapolis kitchens, Kate Baxter found herself under the stage lights at an open mic. An awakening resulted, and she packed her car with guitars, cookbooks, and her grandfather’s cribbage board and moved to New Orleans. Once settled in the old city, Kate’s voice as a songwriter has blossomed like jasmine and she now performs her own material frequently around town.

Scout Island Symbiotic is a field study of place explored through natural ink drawings, botanically inspired silkscreens, shadow boxes, and mandala photographs. The work investigates layers of interdependence — ecological, material, and personal — with the inhabitants and habitat of Scout Island, a small urban forest in New Orleans City Park.
Also included in the show are field recordings of Scout Island. Musicians, artists, and sound makers are invited to download, remix, and respond to them. https://tinyurl.com/scoutfieldrecordings
