ABOUT KARYN:
Website: karynoliver.com
Videos: https://www.karynoliver.com/videos

"This is a very special album that deserves a wide and appreciative audience; and in Karyn Oliver I think I’ve unearthed a very special talent too."- The Rocking Magpie.

"Karyn's lyrics will have you thinking while you're enjoying the top-notch musicianship found in this collection"- Jack Dugan, Folk Odessey, WIOX Community Radio.

2020 South Florida Folk Festival Songwriters' Competition winner Karyn Oliver is part Joan Osborne, a touch of Janis Joplin, and a bit of Emmylou Harris – effortlessly oscillating from bluesy to country and back. Her musical inspirations come primarily from the eclectic mix of music to which she was exposed while growing up in the musically diverse culture of Washington, D.C.

In 2009, Karyn moved to a town called Boring, MD, with a broken heart and a cheap guitar. It was from this place that she created her first solo album, Red Dress, which earned her Kerrville New Folk Finalist and Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist in 2011, as well as the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest winner. In 2011, Oliver moved to New York City with a renewed heart and a better guitar. It is from this place that she created her latest solo album, Magdalene, and became a Kerrville New Folk Finalist for a second time in 2016.

2017 brought Oliver to North Carolina, where she steeped herself in the great writers of the South, and recorded a new album, “A List Of Names”, which charted on both Folk and Americana radio in 2019.

In 2020, Oliver moved to Texas in the middle of a pandemic and waded into the great Texas songwriting tradition. The fruits of that move are “Cherchez La Femme,” a new collection of songs released in October of 2023, featuring an all-female cast in an effort to bring more attention to the fantastic women creating music today. The first three singles have already gotten critical acclaim and song awards.

ABOUT MILES AND MAFALE:

Videos: https://milesandmafale.com/#video

“Miles & Mafale are terrific entertainers. Their skillful songwriting will have your audience paying attention. They combine humor and poignancy to create a memorable experience. Book them!” — Leni & David Engels - Emerald Concerts.

“Beautifully made. An articulate page-turner of an album that feels like a short story collection in 10 songs.”— Marilyn Rea Beyer - WFMT 98.7 Chicago

Catherine Miles and Jay Mafale — husband and wife, co-conspirators, storytellers. They are two scoops of modern folk with a sprinkling of pop-catchiness, topped off with the wit and flair that comes of their theater backgrounds.

Catherine’s voice is an expressive powerhouse. Jay’s guitar is distinctive and unconventional. They are known for the plainspoken poetry, clever humor, and unique perspectives of their songs. Miles & Mafale aim to shift points of view through themes of perseverance, hope, and strength of spirit. And yes, sometimes they throw in a villain just for fun.

It can be said that Catherine and Jay have experienced more than the usual share of ups and downs… but this, along with their diverse influences and initial decade of performing cover songs (in their own group and as sidemen), gives them a tremendous “palette” to draw from. Miles & Mafale blend all of that into their own candid and playful style.

Audiences first came to know Catherine and Jay as a trio, The YaYas, with piano man Paul Silverman. More recent years found them touring the country with Karyn Oliver and Carolann Solebello as No Fuss and Feathers.

Miles & Mafale’s songwriting has earned them acclaim in venerable listening rooms and festivals nationwide, along with recognition as Most Wanted Emerging Artists at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, three-time Kerrville New Folk finalists, South Florida Folk Festival/Vic Heyman Award Finalists, and Honorable Mentions in Mid-Atlantic and Braver Angels song contests. They have performed as official showcase artists at SWRFA, SERFA, NERFA, and FARM.

The duo’s latest release, Be Brave, is “Beautifully made. An articulate page-turner of an album that feels like a short story collection in 10 songs.” Marilyn Rea Beyer, WFMT Chicago.
