You are warmly invited to a free seminar on the art of tango DJing by international DJ Karin Betz on Wednesday 24th June, 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
This event is sponsored by CamTango and will be held at Derek's house. To attend, please register by messaging Derek Smith.
Karin will DJ at our regular Tuesday milonga on 23rd June.
-----
Karin Betz took her first not very successful Tango lessons in 1999, started traveling to Buenos Aires frequently in 2002 and, apart from learning tango from different maestros, delved into the history of tango, different orchestra styles, started translating tango lyrics, collected music and published an anthology of tango stories … She’s been DJing internationally since 2005, in milongas, encuentros and marathons all over Europe and also in China, Japan and Korea. You are welcome to visit her milonga ‘Pan y Tango’ in her hometown Frankfurt.
This workshop is about opening your ears to the combination of music, lyrics and history of composers, singers and orchestras to help you create tandas that tell a story and feel holistic (well, your DJ is a sinologist and kungfu-practitioner who has certain ideas about body-mind-connections). Why? Because that way, the tanda and the whole DJ set will (hopefully) transmit that holistic happiness to the dancers.
Also, we’ll talk about some basics, like, how to compose a DJ set, what music to start and to end with, how to create highlights and get the dancers rush to the dancefloor again when things seem to slow down.
But the rest is left to you – please bring your questions and let’s have a lively exchange.
For those who understand some German or Spanish or are just curious, please check out the collection of my live tango radio shows produced for an independent broadcasting station here: https://www.mixcloud.com/karin-betz/
