About this Event

THE LEGEND

Captain Makaio Kane was a rebellious sailor with no interest in being told where to drop anchor. A storm off the Big Island made that decision for him. He washed into a hidden cove at the foot of a volcano, found an abandoned hut, and inside it a journal of recipes left by someone who understood that the island gives and the island takes.

Honor the cove and you drink well. Defy it and you answer to Pele.

For one night, the cove surfaces in Uptown Charlotte.

THE NIGHT

Tuesday, October 20. Doors at 6:00 PM, last call at 9:00 PM. The Revel Room, corner of E 6th and N Davidson.

We are turning a modern Uptown event space into a volcanic cove: low light, layered greenery, carved masks, and a bar dressed as Makaio's shrine. Exotica, surf and vintage Hawaiian playing all night.

THE DRINKS

An eight-cocktail menu built from the Beachbum Berry canon and made properly, with house-made orgeat, falernum and passion fruit syrup, and rums sourced specifically for this night. The Revel Room's bartenders are pouring from our recipes with your host, Tiki Nomad, working the bar alongside them.

Pele's Wrath, our signature. A passion fruit Mai Tai with aged Jamaican and Martinique rhum agricole, served over crushed ice.

Navy Grog, with a hand-carved ice cone.

Jet Pilot, the spiced overproof showpiece.

Port Light, bourbon, honey and passion fruit.

Hawaiian Sunset, light and easy.

Painkiller, with a zero-proof version poured all night.

House Orgeat Cooler, zero-proof and built on our own almond orgeat.

Two of the eight are alcohol-free by design, so nobody is stuck with a soda.

AND TWO YOU WILL NOT FIND ON THE MENU

Two more drinks exist. They are not printed anywhere, they will not be announced, and the only way to get one is to walk up and ask the bar what is not on the list. Makaio held things back from the journal too.
