The 22nd annual Kansas City Symphony Celebration at the Station presented by Bank of America will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 outside Union Station. With an expected crowd of 30,000, Celebration at the Station is the largest FREE Memorial Day weekend event in the Midwest. The Kansas City Symphony presents this event as a gift to the community each year and as a tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. At 8 p.m., guest conductor Stuart Chafetz leads the Kansas City Symphony in a concert featuring special guest Aubrey Logan and music by John Williams, Scott Joplin and George Gershwin. The concert also includes crowd favorites like Armed Forces Salute and the 1812 Overture with live canons. The grand finale features a stunning fireworks display from the top of Union Station along with patriotic music performed by the Kansas City Symphony.
MAIN STAGE:
Live entertainment 5:00 p.m. — Pre-concert performance by United States Air Force Academy Band’s Stellar Brass Quintet
6:00 p.m. — Pre-concert performance by Raptor, rock ensemble from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band
8:00 p.m. — Kansas City Symphony concert
9:30 p.m. — Fireworks
10:00 p.m. — Event concludes
WHAT TO BRING AND WHAT NOT TO BRING:
• Picnic dinners are encouraged. There is also plenty of food available for purchase on-site.
• Seating is not provided. Bring folding chairs and blankets.
• If you bring umbrellas, please do not block the view of others.
• No alcohol or glass containers.
• No pets.
PARKING:
• Paid parking for the event is available in multiple surface lots and garages around the event site, including Union Station’s West Yards Garage.
• Parking at Union Station's West Yard's Garage will be $10 pay upon entry for vehicles arriving before 3 p.m., $25 pay upon entry for vehicles arriving after 3 p.m. Payment by credit or debit card only.
• Attendees may also park anywhere along Downtown KC’s streetcar route and ride the streetcar for free directly to Union Station. The streetcar will operate until 11pm Sunday night.
