As many of you know, my friend and creative partner Kalen Artinian passed away in August after a long battle with a mysterious brain illness. Taken from us far too soon.Friends of Kalen approached Blood in the Snow Film Festival director Kelly Michael Stewart about honouring him at a festival he loved and supported. Without hesitation, he was in—and from that conversation, the KALEN ARTINIAN Prize — “The Indestructible Award” for Best Emerging Short Film Director was born.
To celebrate this inaugural year, we’re screening The Indestructible—a film that took Kalen and me around the world—on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 9:30 PM at the Isabel Bader Theatre. It will play alongside Raven Banner’s new feature Foreigner, a movie I’m certain Kalen would have loved.
Your support means a lot: a portion of proceeds will help fund the award for years to come, and I’d genuinely love to finally share this film with you—it never really got a proper Toronto premiere. Kalen once imagined expanding it into a feature; I pictured it episodically. Rewatching it now, I believe it stands strong as a short… and who knows how far Kalen’s influence on cinema will continue to be felt from beyond the grave.

If funds are tight, please message me—we’ll get you sorted. It would truly mean the world to see you there.
On November 18th 2025 @ Isabel Bader Theatre as part of @Bloodinthesnow Film Festival we will be doing a memorial screening of The Indestructible in Memoriam of Kalen Artinian who sadly left us to soon in August 2025. In his memory and so that his impact on cinema may be felt from beyond the grave we are proud to announce the Kalen Artinian Prize awarded to best short film director as part of The Blood In the Snow Film Festival.
Tickets Available here: https://www.goelevent.com/BITS/e/Foreigner
“The Indestructible Award” honors the best emerging short filmmaker at The Bloodies (BITS official awards), named for Armenian-Canadian auteur Kalen Artinian and his acclaimed short The Indestructible. The prize includes a small cash bursary that in a small way helps sustain small festivals and help new voices break through. A nod to the feature Kalen hoped to make, the award carries his passion for horror forward—perhaps even from beyond the grave. As part of its launch, THE INDESTRUCTIBLE screens November 18 at the Isabel Bader Theatre, playing alongside Raven Banner’s new feature buzzworthy female fronted FOREIGNER a film that i'm certain Kalen would have loved. One and all those who knew him well or didn't at all come celebrate his work on the big screen one more time. Tickets: BloodInTheSnow.com.
