Life of Hae-oak follows Ra-El, who at age 29 is fervently studying for one of Korea's toughest exams, the civil service exam. Her mother, who raised Ra-El alone after her husband's financial failure, has placed all her hopes and dreams on her daughter’s success, believing it will transform both their lives. Can Ra-El bear the immense pressures that have been placed on her—and should she?

Director Park Jung Hwan’s 2021 drama explores one young woman’s relatable internal battle with parental expectations, societal pressure, and the trauma of growing up in post-crisis South Korea, reflecting the larger generational issues faced by many.
