We have secured legendary local artists, Ta-coumba T. Aiken and T. Mychael Rambo to create with our Fellows in our first ever Justice Re-Imagined Youth Fellowship starting in two weeks!
We are seeking 15 youth, ages 14-19 years of age, who have experienced incarceration themselves or have a family member who is currently or formerly incarcerated. Fellows who complete the fellowship will be paid a stipend of $250. The artwork of the fellows will be displayed for the community in a July 2024 exhibition at the Central Library in downtown Saint Paul.
The Fellowship will take place over four Saturdays, April to June 2024. Each Saturday session will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Fellows will: 1) create visual and written works of art that speak to their experience with, and vision for Justice, 2) learn from accomplished artists writers, and community leaders 3) attend a private showing of the JUSTICE RE-FORMED exhibition at Attorney General Keith Ellison's Office at the state capitol in St. Paul.
Fellows must be able to attend the following sessions.
Workshops are held at the Black Youth Healing Arts Center in Saint Paul. 643 Virginia St, St Paul, MN 55103
· April 27, 2024: Orientation and Art Session I 10am-3pm with local legendary artist Ta-coumba T. Aiken
· May 4, 2024: Field Trip to Attorney General's Office and State Capital, Debrief/Art Session II 10am-3pm
· May 18, 2024: Art Session III 10am-3pm with the legendary Emmy Award winning actor, vocalist, arts educator and community organizer T. Mychael Rambo!
· June 1, 2024: Art Session IV 10am-3pm with Minneapolis artist and tatoo artist, Willard Malebear, Unified Theory Collective
