Have you ever wondered how some quilts are made out of such tiny pieces that seem to fit together perfectly with every corner perfectly geometric? The answer just might be English Paper Piecing, a technique that involves using heavy paper guides to hand sew fabric together. A fiddly hobby for sure, but it never fails to leave people asking “”how did you do that?””
In this class you will level up your basic hand sewing skills to make a small trinket bowl while learning the foundational techniques for English Paper Piecing. In the first class we will discuss the history and details of the technique, cut out fabric pieces using a template, and baste the fabric to the paper pieces before starting to sew them together. You’ll finish sewing your two bowl pieces together on your own before we meet for the second class. During the second class we will remove the basting and paper pieces, align the two pieces together, and learn how to ladder stitch the pieces together to create your finished bowl.
