Just Batty Bikers! on the Woonasquatucket River Greenway

Join the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 9:15am for a family-friendly guided bike ride along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. Come dressed as a bat, human, or wear any Halloween costume.

We'll meet at Riverside Park (Aleppo St, Providence, RI 02909) at 9:15am to check out the bat boxes installed there. From 9:30-10:00 am we will take a leisurely ride up the Greenway to the Manton Outdoor Classroom and Fishway (15 Goldsmith St, Johnston, RI 02919) where we will lock up our bikes and enjoy a bat-themed workshop with 15 Minute Field Trips called "Just Batty." After the workshop, we'll ride back on the Greenway and end back at Riverside Park. This trip is 2 miles each way, 4 miles round trip on our off-road, protected bikeway. There is one street crossing. Riders should be comfortable riding a bike, this is not a learn-to-ride event.

The cost is sliding scale $5–$15 if you bring your own bike, or you can reserve a WRWC bike in advance to use for the trip. Register by Friday 10/24 at 12pm to reserve a bike. Helmets are required for all participants.

Join us for Just Batty!, an event where you’ll learn about the incredible flying mammals that help control pests, including mosquitoes. Create your own bat puppet while discovering how to protect these vital creatures and their habitats.

This fun, hands-on event is perfect for all ages, providing an opportunity to learn about bats and their important role in our ecosystem!

Accessibility:

We can access the bathroom and water if needed at Riverside Park. Once we get to Goldsmith St, the closest bathrooms will be at the nearby Cumberland Farms. If you are bringing your own bike, it should be functional to ride as we won't be able to offer bike repairs at this event.
