Junior Woodworking Design Challenge (Ages 8 - 11)

A summer camp for girls and gender expansive kids* age 8-11

Join us for a week-long exploration of woodworking tools, their safe use, and their creative potential!

We will be using a variety of freestanding and hand-held tools to better understand how to design useful objects using wood and fasteners. After taking some time to practice the safe use of tools, students will be given a design challenge to solve in teams.

We will spend the week exploring creative solutions, learning about engineering principles, and making something awesome (which we will take apart at the end!)

Accessibility notes

• The majority of our studio is not climate controlled.
• Students will be exposed to a frequently dusty space with loud machinery.
• Parts of this workshop may be held in a computer lab, which is only accessible by one flight of stairs.

* Our goal is to serve under-resourced communities, female-identified, and gender expansive students to help bridge the gender gap in STEAM fields and trades, and create excitement and curiosity around these fields. We ask families to understand that there is limited space in our classes, and know that we welcome students of all genders and demographics.
