The VCM Junior Strings Summer Camp gives young students musical days filled with group classes, composition, chamber music, art, and outdoor fun! This year we’re offering 3 weeks of junior strings camp including one week at our brand new location, Brentwood College in Mill Bay (July 11-15). Within the weekly camps, we will have three individualized levels of learning inviting a wide range of abilities, from those students picking up the violin or cello for the very first time to those with several years’ experience playing in chamber music ensembles. Our high ratio of faculty to student gives plenty of opportunities for individual attention including mini lessons throughout the week.
Students will be assigned to streams by the Junior Program Coordinator.
1. Beginners
Inviting students to come to camp and try the violin or cello for the very first time! Students will be introduced to basic skills on their instruments and take part in rhythm and ear training games, a group composition and perform in the final concert!
2. Music Readers
This level introduces students with some previous experience on their instruments to music reading basics, rhythms, rounds and chamber music skills. Music parts will be introduced and learned at camp. No advance preparation is necessary.
3. Chamber Players
This level is for students with previous chamber music or orchestral experience. Students will be assigned parts in advance to prepare at home. Focus will be on chamber music and ensemble skills. Repertoire will be more challenging. Minimum level grade 3 RCM.
VICTORIA CAMP
University of Victoria, hosted by the School of Music, MacLaurin Building, 3800 Finnerty Road.
Program runs full day 9am-3pm, Mon to Fri. Ages 5-10. Final concert at Philip T. Young Recital Hall.
2 weeks – June 27-July 8 | $799.00 + $30 registration fee
1 week – June 27-July 1 or July 4-8 | $420.00 + $30 registration fee
