Junior Dog Handler Workshop!

We know that your kids want to have fun with dogs... and we want to have fun with your kids (and teach them some things too)! Our Junior Dog Handler workshop is designed to give kids an introduction into safety, handling and enrichment! We work kids through things like:

• How to hold the leash the right way
• How to safely hold and work with a pulling dog
• How to meet and greet/pet dogs safely
• Reading basic body cues/language
• Basic treat training techniques
• Human foods that are safe for dogs to eat
• Safe games to play with dogs
• How to make homemade enrichment projects to help keep their dogs entertained at home

This workshop is designed to get kids comfortable with the basic handling techniques specifically tailored for them! Our staff dogs are trained to work with children specifically during programs and Kamps so we will be happy to provide the dog... you just provide the kid! Our staff dogs range in size from 10lbs to 100lbs and LOVE to show kids how fun dog handling can be! We ask that all personal pet dogs stay home... this workshop is just for the kiddos!

Things to know:

We want your kids to have the MOST fun they possibly can while staying safe! With that in mind, we ask that all kiddos come in long pants and closed toed shoes. Sandals or flip flops will not be permitted. We also recommend parents apply sunscreen, bugspray and/or any other desired lotions or spray as Homemade Hounds is not able to provide or apply to your child.

Having fun can be hot work! Children MUST bring a water bottle with them! We will have refill stations for water during the program!

We understand that parents want to keep children safe during these times of cold and pandemic. As this workshop is outdoors, it provides a unique opportunity to gather in a much safer environment than some. We encourage parents to protect their children as they see fit! If your child comes with a mask, we will encourage them to keep it on throughout the program as per your wishes. Hand Sanitizer will be readily available at all times and we are happy to help parents practice good safety protocols... whatever they mean to you.

**Kids are encourage to participate at their comfort level and will never be "forced" to interact any more than they want to voluntarily. You will be surprised how quickly some who are shy or nervous, will open up and participate!**
