Juneteenth The Musical Stage Play Juneteenth The Musical Stage Play is coming to The Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education in Downtown Memphis Saturday, June 10, for two shows: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Presented by Dr. Telisa Franklin, the stage play is a powerful depiction of servitude and a poignant reminder of what it was like when the slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned that they were free two years after President Lincoln signed The Emancipation Proclamation. The news triggered a jubilant outcry that reverberated across the country, followed by revelry and a celebration that included music, dancing and lots of food. Directed by Chrysti Chandler, founder of The Young Actors Guild, Juneteenth The Musical Stage Play is a life-altering experience of that sordid era that the YAG performers, under Chandlers direction, interpret so masterfully with skits, songs, and dancing. Its a jubilant celebration without equal. Its a must-see stage play.
