Telfair’s observance of Juneteenth reaches its 17th year with a day of activities, storytelling and performance celebrating freedom and African American culture. The museum welcomes back Dr. Jamal Toure as the African Spirit to open the event with a libation ceremony, followed by children’s activities, storytelling, presentations by Atlanta visual and spoken word artist rEN Dillard (original co-founder of Savannah’s Spitfire Poetry Group), and a special musical performance at 3pm by Bokei Carribean Vibes Steel Drum Band.
*Performances and family art making activities from 1pm–4pm. Free admission to the Jepson Center for local residents of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties.
Investment provided by the City of Savannah, Georgia Council for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and Colonial Group.
