Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom — a film screening & talkback
About this Event
Join us for Our Daily Bread Ministries' Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom!
Juneteenth marks the day freedom finally reached the last of the enslaved — and it carries the faith, hope, and courage that earlier generations held on to, and that still call us toward freedom today. Cornerstone Church invites our West End neighbors, students, and families to mark it together.
Join us for a free community screening of the documentary Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom. The film follows one man wrestling with the legacy of American slavery — and the way Christianity was misused to defend it. His journey to Galveston, Texas, uncovers how the story of Juneteenth reveals the hope and resilience that sustained the formerly enslaved and their descendants in a long, unfinished fight for freedom. The film features Grammy-winning recording artist Lecrae and Opal Lee, the activist whose decades-long campaign helped make Juneteenth a national holiday. (Running time about 75 minutes.)
After the film, stay for a talkback and audience Q&A with the film's host, writer, and producer, Rasool Berry. A teaching pastor and a leader at Our Daily Bread Ministries, he'll open up the film's questions about faith, history, and freedom — and what they ask of us now. He will be in conversation with poet, linguist, and scholar Dr. Alysia Nicole Harris.
