Come celebrate Juneteenth — Freedom Day — with Tricky Royalty at a meaningful, community-centered gathering inside Sozo Healing House in Tempe, AZ.
Why Juneteenth? Juneteenth (June 19th) marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally received word of their freedom — making it one of the most significant days in American history. This event is our way of honoring that legacy through three things deeply rooted in Black culture and the African diaspora: drumming, art, and community.
What Actually Happens at This Event: When you arrive, you'll be welcomed into a relaxed, coffee shop-style atmosphere at Sozo Healing House. Here's how the morning flows:
☕ Sip — Enjoy the cozy café vibes while you settle in and connect with others in the room
🥁 Drum Together — Led by the talented Shawntele Treasure, this is a community drum circle — meaning YOU are part of it. No experience necessary. Drumming has long been a powerful form of communication, resistance, and celebration in African culture, and in a true drum circle, that power comes from everyone in the room participating together. Treasure will guide the group so no one feels lost — just show up ready to feel the rhythm.
🎨 Create — Get hands-on with your own culturally patterned art. Choose between crafting a pillow case or a canvas, guided by patterns and designs that reflect African artistic traditions. No art experience needed — just show up and create.
This is not a passive event. You'll leave with something handmade, a full heart, and a deeper connection to why June 19th matters.
This event is open to everyone. All backgrounds, all ages, all are welcome. Juneteenth belongs to all of us.
