About this Event
Juneteenth Celebration: Stillhouse Cove Remembrance Project
Join us in person for a heartfelt Juneteenth Celebration at Stillhouse Cove! It's a day to remember, honor, and connect with the rich history and culture behind this important moment. Expect community, meaningful stories, and a chance to celebrate freedom together. Don’t miss out on this special gathering!
You are warmly invited to a Juneteenth gathering of remembrance, as we honor the lives of the enslaved Africans of Stillhouse Cove and Pawtuxet Village through the unveiling of a monument created in their memory.
This offering is held by the Stillhouse Cove Remembrance Project, a group of dedicated educators and community leaders who bring a critical eye to the history of Pawtuxet Village.
On Friday, June 19th, the ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 PM. We invite you to arrive at the Shriner's parking lot (on Broad Street/Corner of Rhode's Place, Cranston) between 2:30 and 2:45 PM to park, gather, and be ready to walk to the ceremony together.
We invite descendants of the enslaved to wear white and indigo blue.
The gathering will include African drummers, a speaker lineup, and a community embrace as we come together in remembrance and reflection.
Following the unveiling of the memorial monument, we will return to 37 N. Fair Street at the Stillhouse, where the celebration will begin at approximately 5:00 PM, continuing in the spirit of community. This gathering will include light bites and a Capoeira demonstration commemorating historical and enduring links across the African diaspora.
For the celebration, a suggested tax-deductible donation of $25 is welcomed. For those who feel called to give more, additional contribution levels are available through the Reserve a Spot tab, with all proceeds supporting the Stillhouse Cove Remembrance Project.
