On Wednesday, June 19 th at 6:00 PM, St. Luke’s will celebrate our nation’s newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, commemorating the anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States. Please RSVP by email only at [email protected] no later than Monday, June 17 so we know how much food to prepare.
This is a Rain or Shine event. Feel free to bring an outdoor chair or blanket.
We will walk the Stations of the Cross at the Eastport Memorial Labyrinth, using Annette T. Staub’s “Following Jesus in Justice: A Way of the Cross,” to honor leaders in the fight for racial justice and others who have worked to help oppressed people.
The Stations will be illustrated with powerful contemporary paintings by Margaret Adams Parker, Artist in Residence at the Virginia Theological Seminary.
Our walk through the Stations will be followed by a talk-back with author Annette T. Staub and a chili and cornbread supper.
Join us as we celebrate this important milestone in our nation’s history and contemplate what still needs to be done to establish true racial justice for all of God’s children, helping the Holy Spirit to usher in the Kingdom of God.
