In celebration and remembrance of Juneteenth, which began a new era for those formerly enslaved. The JAM Band (Jazz Awareness Mind) will present a program of music which demonstrates the African American contributions to world culture. This program will feature uplifting and celebratory sounds that were created despite brutal oppression and the institutionalized racism that was supposed to wipe out all traces of their ancestral, spiritual and cultural practices.
The JAM Band will inspire the congregation with moving spiritual music in the African American (secular) jazz tradition and remind people that in 2024 we still have work to do for the freedom and liberation of all peoples.
