cherished, and capitalized by cultures worldwide since antiquity.
> In colonial Louisiana, indigo flourished as a leading plantation crop during the 17th century thanks to the genius, labor, and expertise of enslaved West African people and their descendants.

Discover how remembering her Ancestral heritage is inspiring innovative solutions for cultivating the CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE, CONSCIENTIOUSNESS & CHARACTER of our beloved young people!
This community arts program aligns with Louisiana Social Studies and Visual Arts Standards for 5th grade through 12th grade. Students and teachers are encouraged to participate.

SAVE THE DATE - This Artist Talk & Family Day program (described above) is a prelude to "INDIGEAUX: Yes, Spirit. I'll Go..." - the forthcoming exhibition of new art and indigo cloth created by Iya Oriade Queen Leia Lewis, which opens July 2024.
The projects are supported by grants from the ew Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Shreveport Regional Arts Council with funds from the City of Shreveport, as well as professional development with Institute for Louisiana Culture and History at Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and an artistic scholarship Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center, New Mexico.
