June Sketch Meet- Hawrelak Park

Hello Sketchers!
Summer is finally here! For June’s Sketch Meet we will be visiting the newly rehabbed Hawrelak Park, 9330 Groat Road NW.
We’ll meet at the Main Pavilion at 11 am. From there we can sketch anywhere around the park site meeting back at the Pavilion at 1 pm to share our sketches and take some photos. Should it be raining or extremely hot there are options for sheltered sketching spots amongst the new renovations.
Potential Sketching options:
- New Pavillion and promenade path that skirts the lake equipped with blue adirondack chairs and built in curved bench seating for some wonderful views of the park and lake.
- New area commemorating Edmontons Community Leagues. This large plaza has covered and open air seating, info plaques, maps, heaters and a view of the lake. Following this around further will take you to a number of stand alone sculptures and info plaques related to Edmonton life and history.
- A new, and elaborate, kids park with tall tree like houses, bridges, slides and other fun aparatus.
- Anywhere in the park! Lots of picnic tables throughput the park each with its own unique view point. Random picnic table are free to use on a first come first serve basis. Be aware that any of the large covered picnic sites are reserve ahead and rented spaces.
Social - BYOP-Bring Your Own Picnic lunch! At 1 pm, after photos, we’ll choose one of the first come first serve picnic spots to gather, snack and visit. You may want to bring a small folding chair or a blanket to sit on just in case we can’t get a spot with enough bench spaces.
Please note. The park reno has added some onsite food options. Lift Me Up on the Lake is the company running the on site food amenities which include a walk up window with sandwiches, pizzas and beverages. A bakery counter inside. Items vary daily. Dining hall which can take walk ups but reservations are recommend. You may want to pick something up from here but please know availability and speed are based how busy the park is that day.
