Clip & Grow Bonsai: A system of proportions, wound care, and longevity
During this meeting, our guest speaker Mike Lane (Kitsune Bonsai) will explore growing bonsai with or without wiring techniques, with focus on building bonsai with nothing more than a pair of shears. Perfect for seedlings and cuttings, the techniques that he will touch on are also great for learning proper wound healing care, proportion building, and ramification theory that is ideal for larger trees as well.
Mike Lane began his bonsai journey in late 2008 after receiving a small juniper as a gift. Following this tree's untimely demise, he began looking for classes online and stumbled upon Wigert's Bonsai in North Fort Meyers Florida. Shortly after his first few visits, he began working under Erik Wigert. After a short period of time, he began assisting him in both traveling workshops, regular classes, and all aspects of maintaining the bonsai nursery. Mike has a long list of accolades, including receiving a scholarship to travel to Mexico for the 2010 FEBLAB convention where he met and learned from artists like Mauro Stemberger, Min Lo, Robert Steven, Vlad Novak, and Enrique Castano. He began teaching in 2012 at various locations throughout the state of Florida. 2022-2023 marked the launch of kitsunebonsai.com - an online resource for classes, programs, and merchandise.
