Seam Shift: painting through construction
Statement
In Seam Shift, I focus on how structure changes the language of a painting. Cutting breaks apart continuity, while sewing rebuilds through visible seams. These interventions shift how marks relate to one another, altering gesture, rhythm, and surface through physical reconstruction. The resulting works can echo quilted structures, where fragmentation and joining become part of the surface.
The work is built through repetition and repair. Painting becomes a material repeatedly transformed through breakdown and reconstruction. Rather than presenting a seamless surface, the work holds onto its construction and the visible evidence of how it is made, taken apart, and rebuilt.

TRANCE
The act of painting this series has been both an enlightening and healing experience for me!
Throughout the slow process of creating the pathways and organic mazes found in my paintings,
I encountered cobwebs of repressed feelings and also the light of cherished memories.
Among this cache were reminders of many worldwide travels and the discovery of traditional
cultural arts and the appreciation of the history of these cultures.
I have been enlightened by the fact that my life and artwork are influenced by the variety of
techniques used in these artforms from wood carvings, textiles, pottery, ironwork, painting,
music, dance to inspirational writings, quotes and beyond. My own experimentation with paint,
collage, found objects, scraping, sanding to reveal layers, and finally finishing with cold wax
becomes reminiscent of some of these learned techniques.
I realize the importance of the strong connection to, and responsibility felt for land and sea by all
these cultures around the world.
My hope is that we can all be grateful for the influence this has had in our lives.

Seasonal Transformation
Daily walks throughout the fields and trails of Colorado finds me imagining nature taking
on human like qualities. I believe some of our deepest desires are reflected in the
nature world: to love unconditionally like the passionflower, to trust like the enduring
strength of wood, to find hope in the drifting wishes of dandelion seeds, to connect like
the dancing fields of grasses, and to be seen like the tiniest, most delicate blooming
weeds.
My acrylic botanical paintings, along with my more recent feminine silhouettes, often
carry a message or tell a story. They reflect my personal experiences, my philosophy,
and fleeting moments of life itself. Adding symbolism and recognition to the often-
overlooked elements of nature intrigues me. Although the subject matter that I paint is
often rooted in the ordinary, it certainly challenges me to uncover deeper meaning in
plant life that reflects the human spirit.
