Marking 79 years since Partition, Midnight Crossing brings together exceptional artists from the UK, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh for an electrifying evening of Sufi music, Folk, Contemporary sounds and dancefloor bangers with unique DJ mixes.
The Big Bottom Begums present the legendary radical singer Arieb Azhar and the electrifying DJ Swami, supported by the incredible Sia Sharma and Bilawal Ilyas.
The night builds towards a unique live collaboration as midnight marks the crossing from Pakistan’s Independence Day into India’s Independence Day.

DJ Swami is a musician, DJ and record producer fusing futuristic electronic and hip-hop sounds with South Asian influences using AI and VR technology.
DJ Swami’s recent UK, USA and India live touring collaboration project PunjabTronix has received global acclaim for it’s fusion of technology and tradition using live improvised modular synthesizers, looping effects, Indian Punjabi folk instruments and hypnotic live capture visuals. With international tours and milestone headline live performances at Glastonbury, WOMAD and Transmusicales festivals to eclectic electronic club DJ sets at Fabric, Non Stop Bhangra (SF) and SOBs (NYC), Swami energises the crowd with electronic rhythms and bass lines fused with evolving Indian percussion rhythms and exotic instrumental melodies in new ways for the global dancefloor.
DJ Swami is twice winner of the UKAMA Best Producer Award for his albums DesiRock and EQUALIZE and winner of a SAMA South Africa Music Award. As co-founder of Simon and Diamond, his production and songwriting collaborations with artists as diverse as Apache Indian to Shania Twain have earned Ivor Novello, Mercury Music Prize and Grammy nominations with music also featured in several Hollywood and Bollywood movies and video games.
DJ Swami is head of record label DesiRock Entertainment and hosts a weekly electronic global music radio show ‘The Phaseshift’ on DASH Radio. He is an avid vinyl record collector from his world travels and also loves to cook up experimental Asian fusion cuisine just like his music.
Arieb Azhar gives sharp eloquence, humanist politics, and mystic poetries are given a global voice. This singer-songwriter from Islamabad, Pakistan leads a quartet of musicians in an eclectic mix of urban and folk-based songs grounded in Sufi and other humanist poetries from across Eurasia. Azhar pays tribute to Irish balladeers, Croatian gypsies, Punjabi traders and ancient Sanskrit texts. Rather than preserving ‘pure’ art forms, Azhar tries to express the human soul the best he can, while making use of all influences he has absorbed along the way.
Bilawal Ilyas
A professional musician, producer, and multi instrumentalist with high level of international experience. Recognized for significant creative contributions across the UK, UAE, and Pakistan, Including collaborations with globally renowned artists and nationally and internationally broadcast performances.
Sia Sharma is a Pahadi-Indian indie musician and singer based in the London live music scene. She performs solo and seamlessly blends rich cultural roots with modern sounds spanning R&B, jazz, neo-soul, and Indian classical. You can explore her evolving discography across various digital platforms
