Erin Dilworth from Communities for a Healthy Bay will lay out what’s going on with the Tideflats Subarea Plan. Right now, we are in what’s called a Scoping Phase. Here’s what that means: Back in April, four future scenarios for what the Tideflats could look like – called “alternatives” – were selected to be studied to determine their environmental and public health impacts. This type of study is called an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Each alternative lays out different visions for the Tideflats Subarea Plan, including how we prioritize habitat restoration, where housing should go, and what types of industries should be in the Tideflats – to name a few. During Scoping for the EIS, anyone who is interested can provide input on what details should be studied under each theme. Scoping is really important because if it’s not studied for the EIS, it can’t go into the final plan. What do you think we need to study to ensure a thriving, vibrant Tacoma Tideflats?
