About this Event
HNC members are invited to visit the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) bird banding station at Sheelah Dunn Dooley Nature Sanctuary on one of two designated visitor days this summer to learn about the program, bird banding, and the bird species of the sanctuary.
- Saturday July 6, 2024 (rain date July 13, 2024)
- Saturday July 27, 2024 (rain date August 3, 2024)
Catherine Manschot, David Brewer, and dedicated volunteers will be assessing and banding birds throughout the visit. The safety and wellbeing of the birds is the top priority, and in the event of a disruptive or noncompliant visitor they will be asked to leave.
Directions and parking instructions will be provided upon registration. Visitors will be greeted by a volunteer and will need to walk approx. 650 m (10 min) along a service road with some elevation changes to reach the banding station.
Please dress for the field (hat, long sleeves, long pants tucked into long socks, boots), be aware of ticks, and bring sunscreen, water, binoculars and/or cameras. No animals allowed.
