Juliet Fraser & Hannah Weirich — Tjögersen, Sten, Snaebjornssdöttir

Voor deze co-productie met Ars Musica keken sopraan Juliet Fraser en violiste Hannah Weirich naar het schier eindeloze aantal soorten paradijsvogels die de bossen van Papoea-Nieuw-Guinea en Australië bevolken. Alsof de naam van de diertjes nog niet sprookjesachtig genoeg is, wordt er ook nog eens beweerd dat ze de grond nooit raken. De mannetjes tooien zich met gevoel voor stijl en drama in sluiers, capes en waaiers en hebben vaak een prachtig gekleurd verenkleed. Los van hun uiterlijk zijn het bovendien excellente zangvogels. Al dat moois vormde de inspiratie voor Kristine Tjøgersen om haar The Shape-Shifters (De Metamorfoses) te schrijven, met de stem en de viool als paradijsvogels van dienst. Fraser en Weirich voegen er nog sferische soundscapes van Helge Sten (aka Deathprod) en een creatie van Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir aan toe.

[EN] For this co-production with Ars Musica, soprano Juliet Fraser and violinist Hannah Weirich drew inspiration from the seemingly endless variety of birds of paradise that inhabit the forests of Papua New Guinea and Australia. As if the names of these little creatures weren’t magical enough, it is also said that they never touch the ground. The males adorn themselves with a sense of style and drama in veils, capes and fans, and often have beautifully coloured plumage. Apart from their appearance, they are also excellent songbirds. All this beauty inspired Kristine Tjøgersen to write The Shape-Shifters, with the voice and the violin taking on the role of birds of paradise. Fraser and Weirich add atmospheric soundscapes by Helge Sten (aka Deathprod) and a composition by Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir.
