**** What is Jujitsu? ****
Jujitsu is a practical martial art for self defense, and involves joint locks, throws, strikes, grappling, and pressure point techniques, all designed to use technique instead of brute strength. Originally used by the Samurai of Japan for battle, jujitsu has developed over hundreds of years to be a practical martial art for anyone of any shape, size or age.
As a student becomes more experienced with open hand techniques they will begin to practice with a range of traditional Japanese weapons; Katana (Samurai sword), Bo staff (6ft), Jo staff (4ft), Sai, Tonfa batons, Nunchaku, Kama, and Naginata, eventually including hojujitsu (rope techniques). Training in these weapons includes traditional katas and practical applications. While traditional, we also adapt them for modern life, e.g. swap your nunchaku for a handbag!
The club is taught by two 3nd Dan Black Belt instructors, Sensei Daria Tsybaeva and Sensei Peter Adamson. We are part of the World Ju Jitsu Corporation with sister clubs around the UK and the world.
