About this Event
This event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel Dallas, 400 North Olive Street, Dallas, Texas 75201 in honor of the Legacy of Juanita Craft and to support Scholarships for the youth of Dallas and programmatic endeavors of the Dallas NAACP Branch. We are blessed to have Honorable Eric Johnson, Mayor City of Dallas as this year's Guest Speaker. The Dallas NAACP Branch is honored to present an award to Dr. Opal Lee "Grandmother of JUNETEENTH!" The gala will feature distinguished community leaders receiving special recognition along with the President's Awards.
Juanita Craft, the founder of the Dallas Youth Council and former Dallas City Councilwoman, had a creed about youth that was unfaltering regardless of race. "Everything comes down to the child. The child acquires the works; he or she carries on what we have left, and what we have prepared. If we want to know who we are, just what we have accomplished, the just look at the children."
The theme for the Gala is "In the Eye of the Storm." The Dallas NAACP remains vigilant while advocating for social justice and equality. Whether it involves civil rights compliance, equitable treatment under the law, the attainment of educational excellence, access to health care, economic and political empowerment. The Dallas NAACP has a long and rich legacy for outreach with the help of our supportive community making these works possible.
